There are many places around that we notice
with a glance, places that have been there
our whole lives, places we pass by often without giving
a second thought to until they are gone or changed
completely. Then we miss them.
The day I was sketching and photographing
Canoga Park Bowling Alley there was a
1962 Comet in the parking lot across the street.
I told the owner I would like to use the image of
his car in the painting. He said it was a picture
car and had been used in movies and television
and I could certainly put it in a painting.
Driving by several weeks later, I noticed
the entire bowling alley exterior had been
repainted red, white and blue.
These type of coincidences surround
many of my paintings.

Leon's Restaurant and Coffee Shop
was demolished a couple years ago.
It was on Vineland in North Hollywood for over 50 years and had jazz every Tuesday night in the lounge.
